2022 bc dirt mile recap: cody's wish became true

In an eyeball-to-eyeball finish to the Dirt Mile that brought the crowd at Keeneland Racetrack to its feet, Cody’s Wish outfought the tenacious Cyberknife to complete a four-timer and give owner Godolphin their second success of the meet. Here is the 2022 BC Dirt Mile Recap!

Breeders Cup Dirt Mile

G1, $1,000,000, 1m main track, 3yo+, 9 ran

For the first half-mile, the 2-1 favorite Cody’s Wish looked an unlikely prospect for victory, way out the back as Pipeline and Gunite put their sprint speed on the clock.

However, Junior Alvarado knew he was on a powerful closer and steadily put Cody’s Wish into the race and, as Pipeline went pop and second-choice Cyberknife took the initiative, he threw down a challenge on the turn.

2022 Breeders Cup Dirt Mile Payout Prices

#7: Cody’s Wish: Win 6.32, Place 3.76, Show 2.92

#9: Cyberknife: Place 4.54, Show 3.54

#1 Slow Down Andy: Show 6.30

Cyberknife lugged left into the path of the fading Gunite but Cody’s Wish ran straight and true and had his nose in front with a sixteenth to run, keeping it there despite Cyberknife’s game rail rally to win by a head, stopping the clock in 1:35 and one-fifth.

The longshot Slow Down Andy kept on well for third without looking s threat, a length and three-quarters further back. The stewards looked at the slight rough-housing in the stretch but took no action.

This was the second G1 success for the Bill Mott-trained Cody’s Wish after his shock defeat of Jackie’s Warrior in the Forego at Saratoga, and the Curlin colt maintained his phenomenal record of hitting the board in all his races, taking his resume to seven-for-11 on his final start before retiring to Jonabell Farm.
