How to read 2021 Kentucky Derby Chart Horse Racing Results
The top line lists the track, date, and race number. Next is a short description of the race that includes the name of the race, the cost to enter (if it is a stakes race), the age of the horses eligible, and the distance. Next is the Purse amount and how the money will be split along with the weather and track condition.
Next is the list of each horse in the race and their points of call throughout the race. Basically, where the horses were in the race at various points including the finishing positions and the lengths ahead of the next horse. The closing pair-mutual odds and brief comments about a horse’s trip (race).
Beneath the list of horses are the fractional and split times for the race. Fractional times tell you how long the lead horse took to get to each point of call. Split times tell you the time it took the lead horse to get from one point of call to the next. The lead horse is not always the horse that wins.
Next is info about the winner including his breeding, breeder, trainer, and owner.
The next section is the payoff section and includes pool sizes and payoffs for all the various wagering options.
The last section is the footnotes which tell you how the race went and the type of trip each horse had in the race.
