Prep Races Results: Saturday featured 9 Stakes races across the country including three Kentucky Derby Prep races. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest wins of the day.
Withers Stakes (Grade 3) Road to the Derby Prep Race was an easy victory for Risk Taking; who went off at 1.9/1 and finished 3 3/4 lengths ahead of Overtook; with Capo Kane a tiring third.
Risk Taking dropped from 75/1 to 40/1 in the Kentucky Derby future book odds. Overtook went from 100/1 to 75/1 while Capo Kane who is currently 13th in Derby points; has drifted up to 125/1
San Vicente Stakes prep races results (Grade 2) 3 year old colts. Concert Tour at 2/5 wore down stablemate Freedom Fighter to win the 7 Furlong event by 1/2 a length; in a race that is not officially part of the Road to the Derby but nonetheless; is an important stepping stone for horse in California looking to make the Derby field.
Despite winning Concert Tour slipped to 20/1 in the KY Derby future book; and 2nd place finisher Freedom Fighter dropped to 75/1.
Moonlight D’oro stamped herself as a contender for the Kentucky Oaks; she cruised to an easy victory in the 1 mile Las Virgenes Stakes prep races. Moonlight D’oro went off at 6/5 and stalked the favorite Kalypso (1/1); and then road by down the stretch while Moraz finished third
Masteroffoxhounds dominated the field; at 8/5 to win the 1 1/4 San Marcos Stakes (Grade 2T) held on the Downhill turf course. The favorite Acclimate (6/5) led to the stretch but was run down by the winner while Starting Over finished third.
Hit the Road (3/1) accelerated late to dominate the Thunder Road Stakes; (Grade 3T) at one mile over the Turf Course. Bob and Jackie the 2/1 second choice finished second while Border Town picked up the show dough
Tampa Bay Downs
Get Smoking at 4/1 cruised to a 3/4 length victory in the 1 1/16 on the turf (grade 3T). Eons finished second and Admission Office finished third. 5/2 favorite Greyes Creek finished 5th.
Sam F Davis Stakes (Grade 3) and a Road to the Derby Prep Races; was an easy victory for Candy Man Rocket. Candy Man Rocket finished 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Nova Rags while Hidden Stash finished third.
On the basis of this win; Candy Man Rocket is now 60/1 in the kentucky Derby Future Book.
Smiley Sobotka who ranks 21st in Derby points and finished 6th is now 125/1
Counterparty Risk at 4/5; was a one length winner in the Lambholm South Endeavour (Grade 3) on the turf at 1 1/16 miles. New York Girl finished second and Margarets Joy finished third
Great Island at 3/10 was a late closing winner of the Suwanee River Stakes (grade 3) which was moved to the main track after heavy rains.
Great Island was followed across the finish line by Drop a Hint and Mylastfirstkiss. The race was run at 1 1/8 mile on the dirt but it was originally scheduled as a turf race.
