2022 Dewhurst Stakes Odds, Pick & Preview

This Saturday will see the most prestigious 2-year-old race in the UK take place with the 147th running of the 2022 Dewhurst Stakes. A seven-furlong race, the Dewhurst has often provided valuable clues ahead of the following season’s Classics with the winner of this race often going on to taste success at the very highest level. This year’s renewal isn’t just a race for now but also for the future. Here is everything you need to know.

2022 Dewhurst Stakes

Group 1, Seven furlongs, open to two-year-old horses. Total prize pool £526,000

At the time of writing seven horses have been declared for this 2022 Dewhurst Stakes and it looks like a fairly open renewal.

Leading the betting is Sir Michael Stoute trained Nostrum. Stoute has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career and was able to train Desert Crown to Derby success earlier in the year. He will be looking to cap off a wonderful season in style with a win in this race and in Nostrum he has a great chance.

A latecomer to the track this season, he has just had two career starts but has won both with aplomb. His latest win in the Group 3 Somerville Stakes was achieved with a minimum amount of fuss and a repeat of that showing will certainly make him the horse to beat.

Looking to extend his unbeaten record to five races is Naval Power. Trained out of the Charlie Appleby yard, Naval Power has won his last two races at Listed level and the manner of those successes certainly confirms he is a classy performer. He is yet to run at this track and it will be interesting to see how that could impact his chances. Appleby won this race last year with Native Trail so knows what is needed.

Surprisingly for all of Frankie Dettori’s list of great achievements, this is a race he has a relatively poor record. A winner of this race twice, he will be hoping he can win it once again with the Andrew Balding-trained Chaldean.

Chaldean has had four career starts and after a disappointing 5th-place finish on debut, he has shown what a classy horse he is with three consecutive wins. His last win came in Group 2 company and if he can run to that level once again he could be a very decent value option.

The last of the major contenders have to be Aesop’s Fables who will be making the trip over the Irish Sea for Aidan O’Brien. The master Irish trainer has won this race in four of the last seven renewals and has another live contender here.

Already a Grade 2 winner, he is the only horse in the field who has been changed at the highest level. A heavy favorite for the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes he will be looking to put his disappointing fourth-place finish behind him here. At a decent price, he will be a danger to the entire field.

Rounding out the field are the trio of Marban, Royal Scotsman, and Isaac Shelby. All three will start at big prices and might be best watched on this occasion.

2022 Dewhurst Stakes Odds & Betting Prediction

NOSTRUM could be a very talented horse and looks to be the one to side with. Sir Michael Stoute has won this race twice and there is a good chance that Nostrum will notch him a third victory and cap off a brilliant season.
