2022 Nashua Stakes

Grade 3, 1 mile, Dirt, open to two-year-old horses. Total prize pool $150,000

With the conclusion of the Breeders’ Cup, some of America’s finest jockeys and trainers head to New York for this year’s Nashua. With just six horses in the field, this year’s renewal is incredibly open.

The slim favorite for the contest is Signator. A winner of one of his two career starts his victory last month from off the pace was an eye-catching performance.

Likely to sit off the speed, look for Signator to make his move up the home straight. Out of all six runners he has posted the best speed figure and that makes him the horse to beat here.

Close behind in the betting is Full Moon Madness. The brilliant Many Franco will take the ride and unlike Signator, Full Moon Madness is expected to be right up there with the pace. A winner last time out, his performance at Aqueduct just a few weeks ago was highly promising.

Running his best up the home straight, Full Moon Madness kept going and going. Looking like he has the stamina to uphold the pace, it will be interesting to see how he handles the probable late arrival of Signator.

Irad Ortiz will be hoping the wins keep coming in the Breeders’ Cup and connections of Champions Dream will be hoping he can steer their mount to victory here. Champions Dream got his career off to the perfect start with an incredibly taking performance in a seven-furlong contest at Saratoga.

Following his effort at Saratoga, trainer Danny Gargon pitched his charge into the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes. Not much went Champions Dream’s way on that occasion. Slow out of the gate, he took a heavy bump which heavily impacted his chances.

Eased home, the margin of defeat and poor speed figure will see him start third in the betting proceedings. However, if he is able to produce something close to his debut performance, he will be the value play of the race.

Next in the betting is likely to be American Speed with Flavian Prat taking the ride. American Speed was a winner last time out but it’s hard to know exactly what sort of opposition he ended up beating. Arguably the unknown factor of the race, he could be one to side with at a decent price.

Rounding out the field are the duo of Torrone and Prove Right, despite this race not being the deepest, both will start as outsiders and might be best watched on this occasion.

2022 Nashua Stakes Prediction

This is likely to come down to the top three in the market – Signator, Full Moon Madness, and Champions Dream. Champions Dream despite not running his race is a strong-looking contender but based off his impressive speed figure last time out, we will give the edge to Signator. His late-running style could see him run another big race here – although he will need the gaps to appear.
