So it was six fillies that went to post on Saturday evening with Bob Baffert trying to win this race for the sixth time in a row and he had two of the six runners. Here is our 2022 Starlet Stakes Recap.

Grade 1 – Purse $300,000 – 1 mile 1/16 – Dirt – 2-Year-Old Fillies
As the gates opened, Pride Of The Nile bobbled badly when leaving the gate. The Baffert-trained Doingitthehardway flew the one gate to lead into the clubhouse turn, where he was followed closely by the 100/1 shot Classymademoiselle who was rushed up to press the speed.
Just outside these two were the heavy favorite and eventual winner FAIZA, along with Blessed Touch, who was unable to get to his normal position on the speed, while the slow-starting Pride Of The Nile and Uncontrollable were at the back of the pack.
The opening quarter went in 23.36 secs with the half-mile clocked at 47.87 secs.
The pace slackened towards the end of the backstretch and as they came out of the far turn it was here that Prat made his move on the favorite, but at the same time Pride Of The Nile had pitched inside to the fence, and got a great run down the inside.
As they hit the top of the stretch, the three up front were Faiza, Dointitthehardway, and Pride Of The Nile and they were noses apart.
Things got tight for Pride Of The Nile as he had a bumping match with Doinitthehardway, while Faiza got to the front at the three-sixteenths pole but drifted in on the ultra-tough Pride Of The Nile and they came close together.
As they went for the wire, the favorite was a neck in front and held well to just out battle the brave runner-up with Uncontrollable, who had come wide into the stretch battling on to take the minor spot.
