There is one Graded race held at the Saratoga Race Course on Wednesday that attracted a field of eleven two-year-olds. In the past, smart Fire At Will and champion Catholic Boy scored the 2022 With Anticipation Stakes, (G3T) so we’re pretty keen to see whether Battle of Normandy will fulfill the role of a favorite here or if some of his rivals get the better of him.
With Anticipation Stakes
Eleven two-year-old colts and gelding will line up for this G3 turf race, where they are about to cover the distance of a mile and half a furlong.
The purse of $175,000 lured in mostly maiden winners, including Battle of Normandy (3-1), who scored his debut easily in August. The Claude McGaughey III bound bay galloped in fifth back then, without any issues, he handled the distance of a mile and half a furlong to deliver a solid finish in the final stretch.
Although it was his premiere outing, and the son of City of Light looked a bit green, he definitely seemed mature enough to be capable of striking gold at the Graded scene. Also, other participants have achieved their starts over the With Anticipation Stakes distance; therefore, there are no trip-related question marks around them.
It applies to Lachaise (5-1), Oscar Performance offspring, who recorded his debut in August, scoring by one and ¼ of a length. The Jorge Abreu-trained bay traveled close to the front, and thanks to a fine turn of foot, Lachaise transformed his first outing into a promising victory.
Our Dream Rye’d (4-1) and Determinedly (6-1) have already met when racing in Saratoga in July. Back then, the former galloped in the very last spot throughout the race but improved his position in time.
Subsequently, Our Dream Rye’d was the only participant there who showed a powerful kick and, therefore, took command quite easily. Ensuring an upset, he was followed home by Determinedly, struggling with a lack of room to rally forward.
Once he could properly charge, he couldn’t possibly catch the victor and had to settle for second place. Still, the couple delivered solid performances and must be respected on Wednesday.
Andthewinneris (5-1) is another Oscar Performance offspring in the field, while this Wayne Catalano-bound colt caught the eye in his debut. In April, he dwelt in the gates; still, his finish was so powerful in the final stretch that he quickly left the whole field behind to score by two lengths over the distance of five and a half furlongs.
Later on, he showed nothing of interest at the Listed stage; however, if he delivers something similar to what he did on his debut, he might be a lively player here. As two-year-olds’ races are often unpredictable, we also mention Bramble Blaze (8-1), with slightly higher odds but a victory under his belt. The trip should suit him.
With Anticipation Stakes Pick
Our pick for the With Anticipation Stakes is Battle of Normandy, whose only performance oozed both class and maturity, and he’s the most likely winner of the bunch. Still, we quite like also Andthewinneris.
