2023 King George Qatar Stakes Recap

Queen of British sprinters Highfield Princess dominates the 2023 King George Qatar Stakes at Goodwood to run out the very easy winner.

King George Qatar Stakes

Grade 2 – Purse $377,000 – 5 furlongs – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Highfield Princess simply electrifying.

This was about one horse, the 4/6 chalk on the morning line, but by the time the gates opened the John Quinn-trained mare had been strongly bet down to 4/9.

Here was a genuine Grade 1 performer against foes who were far inferior in form, ratings, and star quality.

Highfield Princess came here off the back of two board finishes in Grade 1 company at Royal Ascot.

She placed in the 2023 King’s Stand Stakes before hitting the show spot five days later in the 2023 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The race itself was literally a walk in the park. She jumped very well from the gates and was content to stalk the pacesetter Ponntos to the furlong marker.

It was here that the mare went to the front in hand under Jason Hart, and when he urged for more at the sixteenth pole, the response was electric, quickly widening by three lengths before being geared down under the wire.

White Lavender chased hard and was a game second, with Raasel closing late for third spot and Makarova in fourth.
