The 2023 Dubai World Cup just happened this weekend, here is all you need to know about the 2023 Meydan racing recap.

Dubai Golden Shaheen

The Dubai Golden Shaheen – Grade 1 – Purse $1,980,000 – 6 furlongs – Dirt – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Sibelius takes out the Dubai Golden Shaheen under a masterful ride from Ryan Moore, thwarting late-closing Switzerland by just a nose at the wire.

As the gates opened it was Hopkins who was quick to be on the speed, and the quick way was last year’s winner Switzerland, but he was quickly reined back to take a stalking position back in midpack on the inside rail.

As they headed down the backstretch, the pace was fast but it was still Hopkins leading the way. Out of the backstretch and on the far turn it was here that Sound Money and Gunite made moves to join the early leader.

Meanwhile, the chalk Lemon Pop had moved with striking distance just behind the leading pack about 4 lengths from the speed, while eventual winner SIBELIUS had found a seam on the inside under a masterful move by Ryan Moore.

As they settled down for the drive to the wire Hopkins and Gunite had put away Sound Money and looked to have it between them, but Sibelius grabbed them both with a sixteenth to run and Switzerland flew late to just be denied a historic double, with Gunite beaten just three-quarters of a length and Hopkins holding well for fourth.

Dubai Turf

The Dubai Turf – Grade 1 – Purse $4,950,000 – 1 mile 1 furlong– Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Lord North rolls back the years to secure his tenth career success holding the late closing and luckless Dano Beluga.

It was a nice even break from the gate with Order Of Australia breaking sharply from the inside, while Nations Pride had also broken nicely from his outside post position.

As they settled down on the backstretch, it was El Drama who had come to the speed and he quickly widened by two lengths on the field.

At this point, the chalk Serifos was in a nice stalking position in the sixth spot, while the eventual winner LORD NORTH was also nicely positioned in fourth.

The order changed a little down the backstretch as they went an even gallop, and it was El Drama leading from Nations Pride and Order Of Australia.

As they came out of the backstretch El Drama tried to stretch the field but it was here that Detorri made his move on the winner. He pitched into the three-lane and soon came to challenge El Drama and Nations Pride. Meanwhile, at the back of the pack, Danon Beluga met traffic problems.

As they entered the final furlong Lord North came to grab Nations Pride and he moved clear with a sixteenth to go and held the late closing Danon Beluga (very unlucky loser) by half a length.

Dubai Sheema Classic

The Longines Dubai Sheema Classic – Grade 1 – Purse $5,940,000 – 1 mile 4 furlongs – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Equinox obliterates the opposition by 3 ½ lengths in the Dubai Sheema Classic, to post one of the best performances ever seen at the Dubai World Cup.

As they broke from the gate, the Hong Kong raider Senor Toba bobbled at the gate and was immediately on the back foot.

Meanwhile, the chalk and eventual winner EQUINOX had quickly moved to the front under jockey Christophe Lemaire, who was intent on controlling the race on the favorite. He set the speed being followed closely by the well-fancied Mostahdaf and the Hong Kong raider Win Marilyn.

As they came out of the clubhouse turn, Equinox had an uncontested lead on the speed, while last year’s winner Shahryar was content to bide his time in mid-pack.

As they exited the far turn, Lemaire had Equinox in hand and led by a length, with Mostadhaf, Botanic, and the big longshot Zagrey stalking in the fourth spot.

As they hit the home stretch, Lemaire gave out an inch of rein on the leader and he quickly widened by three lengths and was six lengths clear with a sixteenth to run.

The runner-up Westover had to pitch wide to the five-lane and he closed strongly, just as he did in the English Derby at Epsom in 2022.

But he was simply chasing shadows as Equinox was geared down in hand to win by an easy three and a half lengths at the wire with Zagrey outrunning his 50/1 odds to finish in the third spot.

Al Quoz Sprint

The Al Quoz Sprint – Grade 1 – Purse $1,490,000 – 6 furlongs – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Danyah causes a 40/1 shock to win the 2023 Al Quoz Sprint in a five-horse blanket finish.

From the gates, it was Miqyass, the big 33/1 longshot who crossed from his wide gate to grab the lead and he spearheaded the field from the well-fancied and strong traveling Sight Success in second with another fancied runner Al Dasim stalking in third spot.

As they went through the first couple of furlongs, the chalk Al Suhail held up for a late run just one from the back and about six lengths from the speed.

Meanwhile, the eventual winner DANYAH was nicely poised in the sixth spot just a couple of lengths from the lead.

As they headed down inside the final two furlongs, the runners started to fan across the track and it was here that The Astrologist had come through to a narrow lead with the chalk Al Suhail now making a run between rivals.

There were six spread across the track as they had a furlong and a half to go with The Astrologist, Al Suhail, Danyah, Happy Romance, Sight Success, and Duke Wai.

As they went to the final 50 yards, a length covered the first five and Danyah poked his nose to the front to hold off The Astrologist by a head with Al Suhail a neck further back in fourth. Sight Success held well for the fourth spot.

Godolphin Mile

The Godolphin Mile – Grade 2 – Purse $880,000 – 1 mile – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Isolate bullied last year’s winner Bathrat Leon and the whole Godolphin Mile field as he goes gate to wire, and blasts clear late to win by 5 ½ lengths.

It was clear straight from the gates opening that the other jockeys were not going to let last year’s winner Bathrat Leon have it his own way on the speed, and the one to bustle him up early was the eventual winner ISOLATE who showed blazing early speed.

Just in behind were Royal Mews and Win Carnelian and they were also hassling the front two.

As they reached the end of the backstretch and went into the far turn, Isolate had the rail position and it was here that the jockey on Bathrat Leon got busy.

Meanwhile, Win Carnelian came into the three lane and loomed a big danger but his run would soon peter out.

Gaffalione asked the leader to widen and he soon put three lengths on the field while the others behind had no more to give and it was the late-running longshots Law Of Peace (started very slowly) and Atletico El Culano who closed late to hit the board.

To his credit, Bathrat Leon held well for fourth, but this was all about Isolate who demolished this field to win by five and a half lengths.

Dubai Gold Cup

The Dubai Gold Cup – Grade 2 – Purse $880,000 – 2 miles – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

Seven-year-old veteran Broome pounces in the shadows of the wire to defeat the hot favorite Siskany in The 2023 Dubai World Cup.

Early on it was the Godophin runner Global Storm that set out on the speed, and he was there as a pacemaker for his barn buddy and the chalk Siskany.

The pace was solid as they made their way down the home stretch first time and the leader was followed close up by longshots Al Qareem and Al Nayyir, while the two big British raiders Quickthorn and Subjectivist were kept out wider from the rest of the field.

Out of the clubhouse turn and Global Storm led the way, and at this point, the chalk Siskany had moved into the seventh spot just four lengths from the lead, while the eventual winner, the veteran 7-year-old BROOME was lobbing along and tracking the favorite.

They reached the far turn and it was here that the two Brits tracked across to join the long-time leader.

As they hit the top of the stretch Subjectivist took over and quickly put Quickthorn away. Siskany went in pursuit of the leaders and came there in hand under Buick and he looked sure to win.

Meanwhile, Broome was caught in traffic but got loose as they hit the furlong marker. Siskany took the lead but Ryan Moore soon went in pursuit and grabbed Siskany with just 50 yards to the wire.

Subjectivist held well for third while the late closing Ardakan was an eye-catching fourth.
