2023 Minstrel Stakes & Kennedy Memorial Stakes Odds

Will Tarawa prove that her run in the Grade 1 Irish 1000 Guineas is the best piece of form in the field and win her first graded stakes? Here the 2023 Minstrel Stakes & Kennedy Memorial Stakes betting preview!

Breeders Cup Odds

Minstrel Stakes

Grade 2 – Purse $134,000 – 7 furlongs – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up

A highly competitive Grade 2 and the Dermot Weld trained Tarawa is the chalk here. She finished fourth in the Grade 1 Irish 1000 Guineas back in May before posting what many would feel was a slightly lackluster effort in the Listed Celebration Stakes at Leopardstown where she was the 13/8 chalk but could only finish second.

That was over a mile where she was closing late, so this cutback in distance does not look ideal but she has the best piece of form in the race and some solid back form as well.

Her biggest rival looks to be Jumbly who finished second behind the highly progressive Just Beautiful in the Grade 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes at The Curragh back in May and then run an even better race when finishing fourth in the Grade 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The slow pace was against her there and this race will have much more speed for her to close into

As we mentioned, this is a competitive race and both Real Appeal and Salt Lake City look like two foes who can give the top two plenty to think about.

Real Appeal was second over this distance last time in the Grade 3 Ballycorus Stakes when a 20/1 longshot and had a couple of these in behind that day. He is likely to stalk the leaders and although exposed, he should be there at the business end of the race.

Salt Lake City broke the maiden tag at the third attempt for the Aidan O’Brien barn and has continued to improve since that maiden win. His last run as a two-year-old saw him beaten by Derby winner Auguste Rodin in the Grade 1 Vertem Futurity Stakes, and his two runs this season have come against lesser opposition, including when finishing behind Tarawa in the Listed Celebration Stakes at Leopardstown.

Of the ones at bigger morning line odds, then Lord Massusus 10/1 should not be dismissed. He won his first two this season, including a graded handicap two back before taking another step forward when fourth in the Listed Celebration Stakes at Leopardstown when three lengths behind Tarawa.

2023 Minstrel Stakes Odds & Betting Pick

With Tarawa in fine form, she deserves to be the chalk here, and although it will be tough to keep her off the board, the value from a betting perspective is not there.

So a narrow vote goes to the improving LORD MASSUSUS who looks sure to take another step forward and will enjoy the cut back to seven furlongs.

Jumbly and Salt Lake City are sure to be there when the cameraman takes the pictures and should be fighting for a slice underneath.

With Zarinsk in fine form and set to attempt another gate to wire, she should once again hit the board.

However, her run style could set this race up for a closer, and JUST BEAUTIFUL looks like the one who could benefit most from the guaranteed strong pace and she gets a confident vote.

Tarawa and American Sonja are sure to be there when the cameraman takes the pictures and should be fighting for a slice underneath.

Kennedy Memorial Stakes

Grade 3 – Purse $61,000 – 1 mile 1 furlong – Turf – 3-Year-Olds and Up – Fillies

Can Cadeau Belle bring up the hat trick and keep her unbeaten record intact and secure her first career graded stakes prize for barn handler and top ex-jockey Johnny Murtagh?

Two unexposed runners are Cadeau Belle and Village Voice, with the first mentioned looking of particular interest. The Johnny Murtagh-trained filly has won both starts, taking a maiden at Gowran Park in May before stepping up the class ladder at Navan last month when winning the Listed Kooyonga Stakes. That was a big step forward on her debut and she is sure to be a strong closer over this extra furlong.

Village Voice is another very interesting contender. She broke the maiden tag first time at Thurles in a maiden and was then stepped up the class ladder where she finished third in Grade 3 Eyrefield Stakes on her final outing as a two-year-old. She then stepped forward on her return from a six-month lay to win the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan on very soft turf.

She was well held in the Grade 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot in June but that was a very hot heat and she deserves another chance to back up the good impression she made on her seasonal debut.

Another dual winner this season is the improving Moon De Vega who won on seasonal debut at Gowran Park before putting in a career-best effort to win the Listed Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown last month. Although that is the highest level she has won at, she did some nice races at the graded stakes level last season so should be on the shortlist.

Looking at the bigger prices on the morning line and one that could be interesting for exotics is Keep In Touch which comes from the powerful Weld barn. She hit the board in all four starts as a two-year-old, breaking the maiden tag on her second start before two placed efforts in the Group 3 Weld Stakes and a second in the Listed Montrose Fillies Stakes. She’ll likely be near the speed.

2023 Kennedy Memorial Stakes Odds & Betting Prediction

Cadeau Belle looks sure to run a very big race but this is definitely her toughest assignment so far, and she might just lack the experience. However, she should hit the board.

However, the selection is VILLAGE VOICE who although well beaten last time, will enjoy the class drop, and she might just have a bit too much class for these.

Both Moon De Vega and Keep In Touch are live dangers, and should be fighting for a slice underneath.

Tarawa is likely to take this assignment and if she does, it will be a shock if she cannot hit the board.

However, the best form is with SOUNDS OF HEAVEN and that form was franked heavily by Remarquee at Newmarket last week. She’ll be a short price on the board but looks too powerful for these.

Cadeau Belle looks very interesting and can certainly make her presence felt.
