Bucanero Fuerte demolishes rivals in gate-to-wire fashion!

It was billed as one of the best two-year-old races this season seen anywhere in Europe and BUCANERO FUERTE stamped his class right from the start to win his first Grade 1 and secure a spot in next year’s 2000 Guineas.

The Amo Racing-owned colt had come into this on the back of a win in the 2023 Grade 2 Railway Stakes here at the Curragh in early July where he battled bravely to win on the wire.

There was to be no such drama today as he was alert as the gates opened, and Kevin Stott took him straight to the pace and he did not see another rival.

He set the pace with the longshot Launch, with Unquestionable and three-time winner Porta Fortuna stalking the speed.

As they hit the two-furlong pole, the winner widened by two lengths and for a moment Porta Fortuna looked a danger but as they hit the furlong marker, Bucanero Fuerte widened again and had four lengths at the wire from Porta Fortuna with Givemethebeatboys closing for third spot, with Unquestionable in fourth spot.

Moss Tucker secures first graded stakes victory with gate to wire romp!

Commanche Falls was the chalk here but there was drama at the start as Shartash reared as the gates opened and was soon eased with no chance to recover.

The chalk was always on the back foot and it was the Condon-trained MOSS TUCKER who won his very first graded stakes race on the twenty-ninth start of his career.

He had been successful in the 2023 Listed Woodlands Stakes at Naas in April but had struggled in this spot previously.

Moss Tucker was sharp away from the starting gates and set a very quick pace, so much so that the chalk Commanche Falls was out of his comfort zone after just a couple of furlongs.

He was stalked by Go Athletico and the longshot Ano Syra, and although both were close up, they could not match the winner when jockey Lee urged his mount to widen at the furlong marker, and he went on to win by two lengths with Go Athletico pipping Ano Syra for second under the wire, with Commanche Falls closing late for the fourth spot.

2023 Phoenix Sprint Stakes Race Payouts

1. Moss Tucker$9.00$2.60
2. Go Athletico$1.60
3. Ano Syra$3.80
