July Stakes

Grade 2 – Purse $127,000 – 6 furlongs – Turf – 2-Year-Olds – Colts & Geldings

Jasour causes a major upset by winning the Grade 2 July Stakes by an easy two lengths, and in the process secures a first graded stakes victory straight after breaking his maiden tag.

The first quarter was just a shade over 25 seconds and it was the fancied Purosangue who set a slow tempo with Toca Madera stalking in second spot, with the chalk Malc just a length behind.

Going past halfway, the pace began to quicken, and it was here that Toca Madera came to within a half-length of the leader with Thunder Blue making ground in hand under Kevin Stott.

Meanwhile, the eventual winner JASOUR was being ridden chilly and was in hand waiting for a gap to appear. He got that with a furlong to the wire and set down in a battle with Toca Madera.

As they hit the sixteenth pole, Jasour quickly widened to win by two lengths with the late closing Lake Forest grabbing Toca Madera on the wire for the second spot.

Thunder Blue held well for the fourth spot.

Princess Of Wales Stakes

Grade 2 – Purse $158,000 – 1 mile 4 furlongs – Turf – 4-Year-Olds and Up

This was expected to be a simple walk in the park for Adayar, and tactics were clear from the off as Global Storm led barn buddy Adayar with the eventual winner ISRAR tracking the leading pair, with longshot Grand Alliance in fourth.

With half a mile to the wire, Global Storm was two lengths clear and setting a strong gallop followed by Adayar and Israr, with Grand Alliance now six lengths behind and already beaten.

Buick made his move on the chalk at the two-furlong pole and quickly went a length clear but was immediately challenged by Israr who was now traveling sweeter than his rival.

Adayar backed out quickly after and Israr widened away from his main rival and won by four and a half lengths geared down at the wire. It was a further seven lengths back to Global Storm in third and a further nine lengths to the fourth Grand Alliance.

Bahrain Trophy Stakes

Grade 3 – Purse $253,000 – 1 mile 5 furlongs – Turf – 3-Year-Olds

Castle Way fends off the luckless chalk Tower Of London to gain his first career graded stakes victory for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.

Think First bounced from the gates and quickly went a couple of lengths clear with the chalk Tower Of London and eventual winner CASTLE WAY following, with the other three runners close up behind.

The pace was slow, and the leader quickened three furlongs from the wire but Buick covered the move immediately on Castle Way, while Moore urged more from the chalk just in behind the front pair.

Inside the two-furlong marker and Moore met traffic problems but worse was still to come.

As Moore switched inside he lost his whip.

At the sixteenth pole, nothing separated Castle Way, Tower Of London, and Saint George and they drove to the wire as one, and it was Castle Way who edged ahead of the unlucky Tower Of London right under the wire to win by a head with Saint George a neck away in third and Klondike in the fourth spot.

2023 Bahrain Trophy Stakes Payouts

1. Castle Way$5.50$1.90
2. Tower Of London $1.15
3. Saint George $1.90
