Senor’s the man

There was an upset in the supporting San Diego when 13-1 shot Senor Buscador produced a career-best, coming from last to first to put away Slow Down Andy and Brickyard Ride.

The stretching-out sprinter Brickyard Ride set blazing fractions and was alone on the lead on the back-side, as Senor Buscador trailed the field by seven lengths under Geovanni Franco. Patience was a virtue, though, for as the leader began to falter in deep stretch Senor Buscador began to roll, and although Slow Down Andy hit the front close home Senor Buscador ran him down to get the money by a length and a quarter.

Brickyard Ride was a game third, a length and three-quarters further back, but the odds-on Defunded had no kick at all and finished a dull fourth.

“He’s the most talented horse I’ve ever trained,” said trainer Todd Fincher, who may send the five-year-old back to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, in which he was eighth last year. “He has his quirks, he needs the race set up, and he deserved this.”
