Can Highfield Princess repeat last year’s performance and make it a double in the Clipper Stakes after a 193-day layoff?

We start with the chalk and last year’s winner Highfield Princess 2/1 who won this race last year before going onto Group 1 glory in the Flying Five Stakes in Ireland. She completed her season by finishing fourth in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint after meeting traffic problems.

She started last season as a handicapper but soon improved to move into graded stakes company.

Her profile shows a mare who is developing rapidly and the layoff should not be an issue as she ran well on her seasonal debut last year after a similar lay.

Her main foe looks to be The Astrologist 4/1 who will be partnered by Ryan Moore. This one was second in a tough heat for the Al Quoz Sprint back in March and he had some very good sprinters in behind that day.

He previously ran in the Yulong Stud Newmarket Handicap (Grade 1) at Flemington on home territory in Australia finishing a close sixth of sixteen runners and it is interesting he is in the UK for a crack at the Royal Ascot meeting in June. Australian sprinters have a fine record on British soil and he’ll be a tough foe for the home favorite.

Outside of the chalk, we have the two last-time-out winners Creative Force 8/1 and Marshman 6/1 who both have to be on the shortlist.

The Godolphin-trained Creative Force won a conditions stakes just four days ago, with Commanche Falls back in third, so it will be surprising if they turned out again quickly, but Marshman was a winner on seasonal debut, and being a three-year-old he gets a handy 11lb weight allowance from Highfield Princess.

His recent win came in the Grade 3 Prix Sigy in France so he has a fitness advantage over the chalk.

Looking at the longshots, a couple that look interesting are the previously mentioned Commanche Falls 16/1 and Emaraaty Anna 10/1.

Commanche Falls finished second in the Grade 3 Abernant Stakes at Newmarket, where he had Creative Force behind in third, and he has a weight pull on their run four days ago while Emaraaty Anna was second in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint finishing in front of the chalk.

Both have solid chances to hit the board.

Clipper Stakes Betting Prediction

Highfield Princess is the highest-rated runner in the field and on any other day she would be a narrow choice, but lack of a recent race counts against her.

The main selection is the three-year-old MARSHMAN, who was an exciting two-year-old and has proven he has improved from his juvenile campaign.
