On Wednesday, there’s a trial for the Epsom Oaks held at the British track of York, where some exciting fillies clash for the first time, especially Emily Upjohn and Life of Dreams. Besides the G3 Musidora Stakes, older sprinters will compete in the G2 Duke of York Stakes.
Duke of York Stakes
This G2 turf race is often used for a seasonal reappearance of horses who then become one of the best sprinters of the year, namely Harry Angel or Starman. In 2022, the six furlongs-long event, offering the purse of £140,000.00, attracted a field of eleven three-year-old and older sprinters, though there are no participants of the classic age as all of the leading chances here belong among the four-year-olds.
The first one to mention is Dragon Symbol (11-4), newly trained by Roger Varian, who earned money in four of his five outings at the G1 scene. He’s waiting for his premiere Graded victory and is one in the making for sure; however, it’s a question of whether the past demanding season hasn’t taken its toll on his will to fight.
The Owen Burrows bound colt Minzaal (5-2) looks very interesting here, given he recorded a G2 triumph as a two-year-old but managed only two starts as a three-year-old, including finishing third in the G1 company. In 2022, he should be ready to join the sprinters elite. Vadream (9-1) has shown some class in 2021 and should be capable of further progress, while Rohaan (10-1) could snatch up a place here, which applies also to a talented colt Spycatcher (10-1).
Duke of York Stakes Betting Prediction
Our pick for the Duke of York Stakes is Minzaal, who probably hasn’t shown everything he can do at the Graded stage.

The main trial for the Epsom Oaks is held at a distance of a mile and two and a half furlongs, where five three-year-old fillies are about to compete for £125,000.00.
In this G3 turf race, unbeaten Emily Upjohn (4-6) looks to be the favourite as the John & Thady Gosden trained bay scored her last year’s debut, upon which she was just impressive in her seasonal reappearance in a novice race.
After galloping next to the leader, she took command and bagged the mile and a quarter long event by more than nine lengths. She looked ready to face fiercer competition, and even though she isn’t entirely mature, she is less green than her most serious rival, Life Of Dreams (11-4). The daughter of Dubawi has only one outing under her belt when fulfilling the role of a favourite in a mile and a quarter long race in April. The daughter of Dubawi looks to have a bright future in front of her, and because Charlie Appleby trains her, her victory over Emily Upjohn won’t be that surprising.
The half-sister of many black-type horses, The Algarve (6-1), is an American-born filly sired by American Pharoah and trained by Aidan O’Brien, for who she delivered a triumph on heavy ground in October. It was her third outing, while in Wednesday field, she is set to be the main threat for the mentioned duo. Luna Dorada (16-1) and Ching Shih (25-1) would cause an upset when scoring this Oaks trial.
Musidora Stakes Betting Pick
Our pick for the Musidora Stakes is Emily Unjohn, who should use her experience and class to succeed.
