Fukushima Himba Stakes & Milers Cup Odds and Predictions

Three Japanese tracks hold Graded races this weekend, while the first one to be run is the G3 Fukushima Himba Stakes at Fukushima on Saturday. On Sunday, the Hanshin Racecourse will see the G2 Milers Cup, which is the trial for the G1 Yasuda Kinen, upon which Tokyo Racecourse hosts the G2 Flora Stakes for three-year-old fillies.

Fukushima Himba Stakes

On the turf surface, sixteen four-year-old fillies and older mares clash in this G3 race held at the distance of a mile and a furlong. In the event with the purse of 76,800,000 Yen, Kurino Premium attempts to win the second G3 race in a row as in March; the five-year-old bagged her very first Graded victory in the Nakayama Himba Stakes at the same distance she’ll face on Saturday.

Back then, Kurino Premium was a huge outsider, given she was yet to achieve anything resembling success in such competition. She also looked like a mare who was considerably helped by carrying low weight when scoring in front of Ablaze .

This five-year-old mare was disadvantaged in terms of weight to Kurino Premium, but despite that, she ran a blinder and suggested she could win her first Graded race since 2020. Slyly (5-1) finished fourth in the Nakayama Himba Stakes and could snatch up a place again, while Shirly Poppy (4-1) will attempt to draw on her Stakes victories here.

The last to mention is five-year-old Ruby Casablanca, who has been a great servant to the connections throughout recent years, being reliable at the Stakes level; however, she managed to score even in January a G3 win. Although she failed to deliver in the Nakayama Himba Stakes, she needs to be considered again as she definitely is a talented specimen. Moreover, she wasn’t bettered by a large margin back then.

Our Fukushima Himba Stakes Betting Prediction

Ablaze, who should be able to turn the tables on Kurino Premium. She even looks more suitable by the distance than smart Ruby Casablanca.

Milers Cup

The mile-long event offers the purse of 114,300,000 Yen and is run on the turf surface. On Sunday, fifteen four-year-old and older horses will clash in this G2 race where Cadence Call tries to win it for the second time, but his more recent results suggest he’s out of form.

Therefore, we see six-year-old Karate as a much more likely victory candidate due to his fine performance not only in 2022. The Yasuyuki Tsujino bound horse scored his first G3 win in 2021, and even though he hasn’t added another Graded triumph to his record, he placed twice at the G2 scene, including his most recent effort in the G2 Nakayama Kinen in February.

Back then, he failed to better only Panthalassa, who subsequently bagged a G1 victory in Dubai in a dead-heat with a brilliant British runner Lord North. Such a result boosted Karate’s form considerably, but he’s not the only participant with exciting performance under the belt. Four-year-old Ho O Amazon finished second in the G2 Hanshin Cup in December when beaten only by Grenadier Guards; moreover, he was fifth in the G1 Mile Championship prior to that.

Ho O Amazon has always looked like a proper G2 colt, which he should prove on Sunday once again and make amends for his seasonal debut when trailing in 12th position among the G3 competition.

It’s not easy to pick possibly the best of the rest as many participants have scored at the Stakes or Listed level without shining bright at the Grade scene. Let’s stick with Falconia and Daiwa Cagney then, who have achieved at least some successes in G3, so they won’t surprise when running well on Sunday.

Regarding those with zero Graded experience, Soul Rush could be ready to take on some stronger rivals after scoring three wins in a row; moreover, he’s just a four-year-old who could still be improving.

Our Milers Cup Top Choice is

Karate because he’s reliable, in form, and definitely classy enough to win a G2 race.

Flora Stakes

Only three-year-old fillies compete in this G2 event held on the turf surface while they are about to cover the distance of a mile and a quarter.

The purse of 100,500,000 Yen attracted a field of fifteen contestants, including Personal High who ran in the Oka Sho on April 10. Her sixth place wasn’t anything special, but in this company, she could draw on her quite promising results from 2021 when she finished second in a Stakes race just behind talented Namur.

Although being sixth in a Classic race isn’t a bad result, it doesn’t make Personal High a clear favourite here because, for example, La Seule looks interesting here. She’s scored two of her three outings as last time out, she won a Class 1 race in Tokyo, while another participant to consider is Rouge Eveil who is unbeaten in two starts.

In 2021, she bagged her debut, upon which she was pointed towards Stakes race in February, where she won at the distance of a mile and a half of a furlong. This Yoichi Kuroiwa bound filly is carefully watched on the tracks due to her pedigree as she’s the first offspring of Nothing But Dreams, a daughter of Frankel and the Arc heroine Danedream.

Ho O Vanilla then took third in the Armeria Sho behind smart Piece of Eight, while My Symphony came home in fourth in the G2 Fillies’ Revue in March. A longer distance should suit her well.

Our Flora Stakes Top Pick is

Rouge Eveil, as unlike some of her rivals, she’s still at the very beginning of her career and hasn’t shown everything she’s capable of.
