Golden Sixty too good in the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup

Golden Sixty proves he is one of the very best horses in the world winning the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup by a head and securing win number fourteen from seventeen career starts.

Grade 1 – Purse $1,529,000 – 2000 meters (1 mile 2 furlongs) – Turf – 4-Year-Olds and Upwards

As expected, it was Money Catcher who adopted his customary tactics of being on the speed, and jockey Silvestre De Sousa soon had the field stacked up behind.

He was tracked out of the clubhouse turn by the chalk Romantic Warrior with Glorious Dragon in third and Ka Ying Star, another speed horse in fourth.

Meanwhile, the eventual winner GOLDEN SIXTY was content to bide his time in fifth, a few lengths clear of Panfield and Tourbillon Diamond.

As they exited the clubhouse turn and started down the backstretch, it was here that Ka Ying Star rushed up to press the leader, and this injected some pace into the race.

Money Catcher still led on the inside with Ka Ying Star neck and neck on the outside, with Romantic Warrior traveling strongly in between the pair, just three-quarters of a length behind.

Glorious Dragon still tracked the leader, while it was here that the jockey’s urgings on Golden Sixty got a little more animated.

With half a mile to go, De Sousa injected some real pace to the race on Money Catcher and he quickly widened by a length. Ka Ying Star backed out of it at this point while the top two on the boards made their moves.

Romantic Warrior got the first run and he was soon challenging the long-time leader and hit the front 300 meters (One and a half furlongs) from the wire, but Golden Sixty was now in full flow and as they went to the wire he took the lead with just 5o meters to go to win a thriller by a head.

Money Catcher held well for the third sport while Glorious Dragon closed again after being out-speeded, to take fourth.

Hong Kong Classic Cup

Stakes – Purse $1,529,000 – 1800 meters (1 mile 1 furlong) – Turf – 4 Year-Olds

Super Sunny Sing comes from near last to first to storm clear and win the Hong Kong Cup Classic, giving jockey C Y Ho a big race double on the day.

As expected right from the off, it was Voyage Bubble who wanted to get to the lead, and he did, but it was clear his rivals were not going to give him an easy lead and he was flanked by Sweet Encounter and Sword Point on his outside and the fast-starting Tuchel who had secured the rail position and was stalking in behind.

The chalk and eventual winner SUPER SUNNY SING started well from the gate but was soon reined back to mid-pack, but as jockey Vincent Ho did this, he was joined on his inside by two other horses and found himself shuffled back even further.

Back up on the speed, it was still Voyage Bubble, but he was being strongly pressed by Sword Point. With 800 meters (four furlongs) to run, the eventual winner now had only four rivals behind and he was some 9 lengths back.

As they exited the backstretch, Super Sunny Sing started to make ground and pitched into the five-lane and he was followed through by the eventual third horse Galaxy Witness.

Sword Point took over from the weakening Voyage Bubble with 300 meters (one and a half furlongs to run) while Tuchel had moved into second.

But with a sixteenth to run Vincent Ho and Super Sunny Sing hit overdrive and he flew late to win by half a length at the wire with Galaxy Witness closing late to take the third spot.
