GRADED STAKES RESULTS RECAP

Horse Racing Results – Graded Stakes Recap, Week Ending Jan. 4, 2021

It was a big weekend these past few days, with no less than three Kentucky Derby prep races taking place. There were also several other graded stakes results recap of the races over the weekend; so we have a lot of horse racing results to cover, so let’s get right to it.

Friday

Santa Anita Race 7 – Joe Hernandez Stakes 6 1/2F Turf – $200,000

This one did not go as expected; with 5/1 shot Hembree coming from well off the pace to deliver a blistering run down the stretch. He paid $12.40 for the win, while the race favorite Wildman Jack finished out of the money.

Aqueduct Race 8 – Jerome Stakes 1M Dirt – $150,000

The first of the Kentucky Derby prep races delivered a surprise; with Capo Kane leading from start to finish to take the wire and pay $15.80 for the win. He also picked up 10 points towards the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Saturday

Santa Anita Race 7 – San Gabriel Stakes 1 1/8 Turf – $200,000

Count Again started this one as an even money favorite but failed to make any impact; eventually finishing dead last in a field of 7. It was Anothertwistofate who finished first and paid $7.60 for the win.

Santa Anita Race 8 – Sham Stakes 1 Mile Dirt – $100,000

This was the next of the Kentucky Derby prep races; so one of the most important horse racing results of the weekend. There were no surprises here, as Life is Good recovered from a bump at the start to romp home for the win and the 10 points up for grabs for the winner. Life is Good paid $2.40 for the win and will now set his sights a little higher for future races.

Gulfstream Park Race 10 – Mucho Macho Man Stakes 1 Mile Dirt – $100,000

This was the final Derby prep race of the weekend and it was another where the favorite recovered form a rough start to get up and get the win.

Mutasaabeq stumbled out of the gate; but settled in nicely, coming good down the stretch to win at even money odds and pay $4.20. No points up for grabs in this one, but still a statement race for the winner.
