It has been a busy weekend of racing action across the United States; with no shortage of talking points coming out of the racing. Below, we give you a weekend recap; as we run through all the graded stakes results from this past weekend from Penn National, Churchill Downs, and Santa Anita.
Penn Mile Stakes
There was just one graded race on Friday, as the Penn Mile Stakes took place at Penn National. Godolphin-owned Gershwin was the winner of the Grade 3; as three-year-old won by a commanding two lengths from The King Cheek. Chess’s Dream was back in third but was a distant six and a half lengths behind the first two homes.
Triple Bend Stakes
The most lucrative prize purse on offer on Saturday came in the form of the Grade 2 Triple Bend Stakes. Magic On Tap was a commanding two-length winner of the race at Santa Anita; as the five-year-old finished in a time of 1:23.54. Shooters Shoot was second, while Exaulted was back in third.
Charles Whittingham Stakes
The only other Grade 2 on Saturday also took place at Santa Anita, as Award Winner was just about able to get there before Acclimate to win by a head. The leading pair were involved in a back-and-forth finish to the race, but Award Winner was a deserving winner. Red King finished back in third, as the seven-year-old finished two and a half lengths behind Acclimate.
Pennine Ridge Stakes
Grade 3 action took place at Belmont Park, as Sainthood was able to see off The Reds and Shawdyshawdyshawdy to win by a length. The three-year-old finished at a time of 1:50.57. The Reds was able to get within a length of Sainthood in the final stages but didn’t have enough gas in the tank to get ahead.
Regret Stakes
The big race at Churchill Downs this past weekend was the Regret Stakes. Gam’s Mission was the winner of the Grade 3, as the three-year-old finished in a time of 1:51.02 in one of the tightest finishes of the day. She managed to win by three-quarters of a length from Spanish Loveaffair, while Flown was a further head behind the first two.
Matt Winn Stakes
Two Kentucky Derby contenders were back on track at Churchill Downs in the Matt Winn Stakes. But, neither were able to get past Fulsome, who managed to win by three and a quarter lengths in a time of 1:42.88. O Besos was back in second, while Helium finished half a length behind the three-year-old.
Daytona Stakes
It was another tight finish in the Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita, as Bombard was able to win the Grade 3 contest by a length and a quarter from Majestic Eagle. The eight-year-old finished well to win the race, while Commander was back in third, just a head behind Majestic Eagle.
Summertime Oaks
To wrap up our weekend recap, there was also graded action taking place on Sunday at Santa Anita, as Crazy Beautiful finished the strongest of the three-year-old fillies to win in a time of 1:43.85. She finished a length and three quarters ahead of heavily fancied Soothsay, while Lady Aces was back in third.
