In the United Kingdom, the meeting at the Newbury Race Course offers especially the G2 Hungerford Stakes over seven furlongs. Three-year-old Tiber Flow faces here some older smart, classy horses, including always hard-trying Pogo and smart Chindit.
Ten three-year-old and older horses will compete for the purse of £100,000 in this G2 race over seven furlongs. On the turf surface, three-year-old Tiber Flow (3-1) seized the role of a favourite despite the fact he hasn’t shined at the Graded stage yet.
He should, indeed, benefit from the weight advantage he has over the older horses; moreover, his recent performance was quite promising. The William Haggas bound bay finished eighth in the G1 Commonwealth Cup and he wasn’t far away from the winner. Prior to that run, Tiber Flow won four of his five outings, including a Listed at Newbury.
He’s just a vital player here who hasn’t shown everything he’s capable of, and should be respected when facing older rivals such as Pogo (4-1) or Double Or Bubble (7-1). The former has always been a smart Listed runner, while in 2021, he took second place in the G2 Joel Stakes behind Benbatl. In the ongoing season, the Charlie Hills bound six-year-old Pogo finally bagged his first and also second G3 victories at the distance of seven furlongs, and last time out, he delivered another great run when being third in the G2 Lennox Stakes.
Double Or Bubble has also scored a G3 in 2022, while in June, the five-year-old Chris Wall trainee finished in a fine fifth place in the G1 July Cup Stakes. This bay mare simply shouldn’t be discarded and a good place she should achieve.
Four-year-olds form a strong competition for the mentioned contestants, especially Chindit (9-2). The Richard Hannon bound bay scored his premiere G2 as a junior at the distance of seven furlongs, while the second came up in the Summer Stakes in 2022 over a mile.
The son of Wootton Bassett handles both distances with enthusiasm; however, he should benefit from the shorter one and make amends for the lacklustre run in the G1 Sussex Stakes. Thanks to his apparent class, he is a victory candidate.
Despite uninspiring runs in British runs in 2022, Happy Romance (9-1) also deserves some respect as the four-year-old filly earned money at the G1 level, including the G1 Al Quoz Spring in Dubai.
Hungerford Stakes Betting Pick is Chindit, whose class could be enough to strike gold here.
