Indiana Oaks & Indiana Derby Odds, Field & Predictions

On Saturday, two G3 races for three-year-olds are about to be held at the Horseshoe Indianapolis Race Course. On the dirt surface, fillies will clash in the Indiana Oaks, where Interstatedaydream is the crystal clear leading chance thanks to her G2 victory.

In this company, she should shine brightly once again. Three-year-olds also head to the Indiana Derby, where former Kentucky Derby candidates Un Ojo and Rattle N Roll meet up but could be bettered by some less experienced rivals.

Indiana Oaks

The purse of $200,000 attracted a field of eight three-year-old fillies who will cover the distance of a mile and a half of a furlong here. On the dirt surface, Interstatedaydream (9-5) is the leading chance of this G3 event as she’s already scored at the Graded scene.

The Brad Cox bound bay broke her maiden in 2021 and then finished second in the G2 Adirondack Stakes. After bagging an Allowance race in the ongoing season, the daughter of Classic Empire showed up in the G1 Ashland Stakes where she was no match for victorious Nest; however, she lost second place only by a nose. Subsequently, Interstatedaydream headed into the G2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. She galloped in second back then, took command later on, and bettered smart fillies Adare Manor and Radio Days. When looking at Saturday field, she seems capable of striking gold.

The Kent Desormeaux-trained Candy Raid (4-1) also has some Graded experience under her belt, but she didn’t impress. Last time out, she was fifth in the G3 company after failing to shine both in the G2 and G1 competition. Still, she’s a black-type winner and, therefore, shouldn’t be discarded in a field full of just maiden or Allowance victresses, including Patna (9-2).

She’s a stable-mate of the favorite and broke her maiden at her second attempt in April, upon which the daughter of Into Mischief easily delivered in an Allowance event. Racing in second, she then smoothly seized the front, and because it was her only third outing, she definitely looks capable of further progress and of taking on the better fillies.

Two interesting maiden winners will carry considerably less weight than the mentioned participants and possibly could use that advantage to play a significant role. Runaway Wife (4-1) has recorded six starts and won on her fifth attempt.

Subsequently, she finished second in an Allowance race when carrying more than the victorious filly. The bay trained by Kenneth McPeek will be accompanied here by her colleague Silverleaf (10-1), who broke her maiden also on the fifth try; however, she did so in a great fashion.

In June, she tracked the leader and then drew clear to score impressively by nine lengths. She’s about to meet better fillies on Saturday, but she could deny her odds here and cause an upset.

Indiana Oaks Betting Prediction

Must be Interstatedaydream with her G2 victory, while none of her rivals has shown such a class as she did. Silverleaf could be better than the odds suggest.

Indiana Derby

Among ten three-year-old colts, Rattle N Roll (5-2) looks like the favorite of this G3 dirt held over the distance of a mile and a half of a furlong. With the purse of $300,000 being up for grabs, some exciting colts line up here, while Rattle N Roll is the only G1 winner in the field; however, he achieved it in September 2021.

Since then, he hasn’t shown anything similar, and after trainer, Kenneth McPeek dropped the idea of going to the Kentucky Derby with the chestnut, he pointed his trainee to the Allowance race. Back then, Rattle N Roll finished second, and subsequently, he ran a decent race in the G3 Matt Winn Stakes, where he took third place. Last time out, the son of Connect showed up in a black-type event and bagged the first victory since the mentioned G1 triumph.

Returning to the G3 scene, he should play a role, but he’s once again faced with better horses than he met in a black-type race. For example, Un Ojo (6-1) will make a reappearance here after finishing only eighth in the G1 Arkansas Derby. Prior to that, the Robertino Diodoro bound gelding collected places at the black-type and G3 level, upon which he struck gold in the G2 Rebel Stakes.

His performance was disappointing in the Arkansas Derby, and he just needs to show up in a similar form he displayed in April to achieve another Graded victory.

The leading rivals for the mentioned duo come from participants with no Graded experience; however, King Ottoman (5-1) will carry the same weight as they do due to his black-type success from May. In three attempts, the Steven Asmussen-trained colt couldn’t break a maiden, but in the Texas Derby, he dug deep to win by a head.

Best Actor (4-1) carries the same weight because of his Allowance victory, in which he kept his unbeaten record for Brad Cox as he bagged his debut and then prevailed over a mile by four lengths.

Both colts have shown some tremendous talent, which applies to Actuator (7-2), an advantaged participant in terms of weight. Michael McCarthy has pointed him only into three maiden races so far, while Actuator scored the last one by more than seven lengths.

Such a performance isn’t necessarily a ticket towards a Graded victory, but the son of Bodemeister managed to catch the eye without a doubt.

Indiana Derby Betting Pick

Actuator, who could better even more experienced horses here thanks to his weight advantage and also the talent he displayed. Still, the field is very competitive and none of the mentioned contestants would cause a big upset when succeeding.
