The Jockey Club Oaks Invitational Stakes

Grade 3 – Purse $350,000 – 1 3/8th miles – Turf – 3-Year-Old Fillies

Can Eternal Hope gain her first graded stakes win?

A short field for this $350,000 purse and we’ll kick off with Eternal Hope 1/1 who is owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby who we know sends plenty of raiders across the Atlantic and has a very good record when doing so.

This filly was last seen when tackling tougher foes in the 2023 Grade 2 Prix Alec Head where she finished a close third and that came after she was well held in the Grade 1 Oaks Stakes at Epsom where those foes were too tough.

She was taking a cut back in distance in France and she seemed to be outspeeded there, so the stretchout gives plenty of upside and she still has a progressive profile.

Her main foe looks to be Last Call 7/2 from the Kevin Attard barn. She is a little under the radar but we need to look at the back form on the card, as she ran a strong race in the 2022 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf where she came from way back but closed late to be beaten just five and a half lengths.

She broke her maiden on her third start which came in the 2022 Grade 1 Natalma Stakes, where again she was a very deep closer over a mile.

Her four runs this year have been respectable but today she gets a little more distance, and with speed from Quarrel 8/1 and Neecie Marie 12/1, she should get a perfect setup.

The European import Spierling Beag 5/1 is now with top handler Graham Motion and she has run two fine races stateside without hitting the jackpot.

She was beaten less than three lengths in the 2023 Belmont Oaks Invitational on her first run, and only just failed by a nose last time in a minor stakes race at Laurel Park. Both of those were late closing efforts and she’ll appreciate stretching out.

Tough to see outside the top three on the board but one who looks interesting for exotics is the Barclay Tagg filly Highland Grace 5/1 who has won her last two starts.

2023 Jockey Club Oaks Invitational Stakes Odds & Prediction

Eternal Hope is the short-priced chalk on the early morning line, and although she should hit the board, the Evens is not appealing.

The vote goes to the classy LAST CALL who will appreciate the setup of this race with plenty of speed likely, and she can close late right under the wire.

Spierling Beag is not taken lightly, and along with Highland Grace looks to hold a strong chance and seems impossible to keep off the board.
