Kentucky Oaks Standing Points Update

The outlook for the Kentucky Oaks differs from the Derby in that there is no standout performer such as Forte dominating the market. In this Kentucky Oaks Standing Points Update, We paint pen-pictures of the top ten on the leaderboard, which is headed by the Godolphin pair Wet Paint and Pretty Mischievous. Unlike the Derby, 50 points are generally accepted as sufficient to get into the gate at Churchill Downs.

2023 Kentucky Oaks Standing Points Update

G1, $1,250,000, 1m 1f dirt, 3yo fillies, Churchill Downs, May 5

Wet Paint (RTKO points: 70)

Trainer: Brad Cox | Odds by JazzSports: 7-1

Won G3 Honeybee over mile-sixteenth at Oaklawn Park on a sloppy track, coming late to win by three; distance no concern for this strong closer and next stop either G3 Fantasy back at Oaklawn on April 1 or G1 Ashland at Keeneland on April 7.

Pretty Mischievous (RTKO points: 63)

Trainer: Brendan Walsh | Odds by JazzSports: 20-1

Won G2 Rachel Alexandra at the Fair Grounds, showed plenty of grit in the narrow victory over mile-sixteenth; four-for-five, and progressive; same owner as Wet Paint and will take alternative route with final prep.

Dorth Vader (RTKO points: 50)

Trainer: Michael Yates | Odds by JazzSports: 25-1

Won G2 Davona Dale over a mile at Gulfstream Park, 46-1 rank outsider but drew off for dominant win; found improvement for stretching back out from sprints and further could suit; next stop G2 Gulfstream Park Oaks on April 1.

Mimi Kakushi (RTKO points: 50)

Trainer: Salem bin Ghadayer

Winner of G3 UAE Oaks at Meydan over mile and three-sixteenths, keeping on strongly to score by a length and a quarter; stout stayer and may take on the boys in G2 UAE Derby on March 25 before Oaks decision is made.

Shidabhuti (RTKO points: 50)

Trainer: Chad Brown | Odds by JazzSports: 40-1

Winner of ungraded Busher over the Aqueduct mile on stakes debut, unbeaten in three; it was no more than an ordinary contest but has plenty of potential and should stay further; final prep in G3 Gazelle back at the Big A on April 8.

Wonder Wheel (RTKO points: 48)

Trainer: Mark Casse | Odds by JazzSports: 7-1

Champion two-year-old filly won G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies; ran very well when beaten a neck in mile stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on 2023 debut and will improve considerably for that; heading for G1 Ashland.

Red Carpet Ready (RTKO points: 35)

Trainer: George Arnold | Odds by JazzSports: 25-1

Third G2 Davona Dale at Gulfstream Park behind Dorth Vader, beaten seven lengths, first defeat in four starts; tired close home and may revert to sprinting.

And Tell Me Nolies (RTKO points: 30)

Trainer: Peter Miller | Odds by JazzSports: 25-1

Runner-up G3 Santa Ysabel at Santa Anita over a mile-sixteenth, no match for Faiza (ineligible for Oaks); first run off a break and almost certain to move up; likely target G2 Santa Anita Oaks on April 8.

Hoosier Philly (RTKO points: 25)

Trainer: Tom Amoss | Odds by JazzSports: 8-1

Third G2 Rachel Alexandra behind Pretty Mischievous, giving up unbeaten record with flat effort; slow pace didn’t help but final prep will be crucial as this former Oaks favorite bids to rebound.

The Alys Look (RTKO points: 24)

Trainer: Brad Cox | Odds by JazzSports: 22-1

Won a stakes at the Fair Grounds over the extended mile, but form took a hit when runner-up was well beaten in the G2 Rachel Alexandra; expected in New Orleans for the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks on March 25.
