Los Alamitos Derby Odds, Field & Betting Prediction

Six horses will head down to post for this year’s Los Alamitos Derby. Bob Baffert has won the race for the past seven years and is looking to win the race once again with the highly fancied Reincarnate.

Los Alamitos Derby

Stakes, One mile and an eighth. Open to three year old horses. Total prize pool $125,000

Bob Baffert has a supreme record in the Los Alamitos Derby and is seeking yet another win in the race. He saddles Reincarnate for this year’s renewal.

A Grade 3 winner earlier this season in the 2023 Sham Stakes, he is now winless in his last three starts with all two of those starts coming at Grade 1 level.

Last seen when finishing well down the field in the Kentucky Derby, he now finds himself pitched back into calmer waters and his connections will be hoping for a big run.

John Shirreffs saddles two in the race and looks to have a great chance of breaking Baffert’s hold on the race.

His best option looks to be with Skinner. An impressive Maiden winner back in February he showed what he can do when finishing third in the 2023 Santa Anita Derby.

Something has been clearly amiss before his last two starts, as he has been scratched before competing. That includes a late scratch from the Kentucky Derby.

Reporting as fully fit before this race, Shirreffs will be hoping that one of his stable stars will be fully tuned up here.

His second string Smart Mo certainly isn’t without hope and is by far the least exposed horse in this year’s field. Having only had the one run, he managed to cling onto a narrow win on debut and further improvement should come here.

Richard Mandella knows how to ready one for the big day and will hope that Yellow Brick can pull off the upset.

Yet to win any of his first six starts, a win in this company looks unlikely. Despite not getting his head in front, he has never finished outside the top three and has finished second five times. His time is sure to be near but against this level of opposition he may need to wait a little longer.

Prince Abu Dhabi has a winning record that few can dismiss. A winner of his first four starts, he tasted defeat for the first time when finishing third in the 2023 Alcatraz Stakes last time out.

Whilst he is unproven at this level, he is clearly highly thought of and looks set to give his running.

Rounding out the field is the Peter Miller trained Abeliefinthislivin. He will start as the outsider of the field having just won once in five career starts. He struggled last time out in Allowance company and may find the step up to this level tough to overcome.

Los Alamitos Derby Odds & Betting Prediction

With just six runners in this year’s Los Alamitos Derby, this year’s race looks set to come down between the pair of Reincarnate and Skinner. Bob Baffert is the race’s leading trainer and knows exactly what is needed to win. Despite being winless in his last three starts he should just have enough class to prevail over Skinner and gets the tentative selection.
