Ogden Phipps Stakes & Brooklyn Stakes Odds

This Saturday, Belmont Park hosts its best racing day of the year with nine stakes races up for grabs. The G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes will see two of the country’s best fillies Secret Oath and Clairiere lock horns for the third time this year. So far, each filly has one win to their name, and each will be doing their best to come out on top this time around.

Belmont Stakes Odds

Supporting the Ogden Phipps is the Grade 2 Brooklyn Stakes where eleven runners have been declared. Leading the betting is the Brad Cox trained Warrant who will be looking to repeat his narrow success in the Isaac Murphy Marathon Overnight Stakes. He takes on several rivals from that contest in what is bound to be a majorly competitive race.

Ogden Phipps Stakes

Grade 1, 1 mile and a sixteenth, dirt, open to fillies and mares aged four and over. Total prize pool: $500,000

Six horses are due to head down to post for this year’s Ogden Phipps Stakes. Despite the presence of six classy horses, the betting for the contest looks set to be dominated by Secret Oath and Clairiere.

Both have Grade 1 winning form in the book, but it’s Clairiere who will be looking to defend her crown from last year.

Since that victory, life has been tough for the Steve Asmussen trained star who has just won two of her last five starts. Despite tasting defeat to Secret Oath in the 2023 Azeri Stakes, she was able to reverse that form with a brilliant victory last time out in the 2023 Apple Blossom Stakes.

Her late swooping win in the Apple Blossom suggested that she could be the better horse, and it isn’t a surprise to see her positioned as the favorite for this race.

In the Apple Blossom Stakes, Secret Oath was unlucky not to have beaten Clairiere for the second time this season. Looking to bounce back from that defeat, she headed into the Grade 1 La Troienne Stakes as the favorite but was only able to finish second once more.

Now winless in her last two starts, she arrives in New York with questions to answer but there will be high hopes that her first run at Belmont will spark a return to form.

Rounding out the top three in the betting is the Chad Brown Search Results. A multiple graded winner, she is winless in her last three starts but has placed 2nd and 3rd in her last two Grade 1 starts. She is renewing form with Secret Oath from the La Troienne Stakes where she finished just one place behind her.

The winner of the La Troienne Stakes was the Philip Bauer trained Played Hard. A game winner that day she will head into this year’s renewal hoping to show the racing world that the victory wasn’t a fluke. Although the margin of her victory was slim, she fully warranted her win and there isn’t a reason to think she won’t be competitive again.

Pass the Champagne, enjoyed the best day of her career when successful in the 2023 Ruffian Stakes just a few weeks ago. Raced at Belmont, she rallied well to record the win that day and showed that she is a horse clearly improving. Whilst she may lack the form of several of her rivals, her chances can’t be discounted.

Rounding out the six-runner field is Gamestonks. Yet to run in any graded race, there is a strong chance that she will find this race far too classy and will start as a huge outsider.

Ogden Phipps Stakes Odds & Betting Pick

A super race awaits in this year’s Ogden Phipps Stakes. You could make a compelling case for most of the field, but Clairiere’s winning margin in the Apple Blossom Stakes would have been far greater had she not met trouble in running. Clearly comfortable at this track after her win in this race last year, she looks like the one they will all need to beat.

Brooklyn Stakes

Grade 2, 1 mile and a half, dirt, open to horses aged four and over. Total prize pool: $250,000

Eleven horses are due to head down to post for this year’s Brooklyn Stakes. A Grade 2 contest, the early favorite for the race is Warrant.

A gutsy winner of the Isaac Murphy Marathon Overnight Stakes, he takes on four runners from that race who will all be out for revenge.

The horse he just denied in the Isaac Murphy was Red Run. The two were miles clear of the rest of the field and connections of Red Run will feel that if the Isaac Murphy had just been one hundred yards longer it would have been their horse who would have come out on top. Both horses look evenly matched, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either horse in the winner’s circle at the end of the race.

The favorite heading into Isaac Murphy was the William Cowans trained Next. Heading into the race following a brilliant victory in the 2022 Grade 2 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes, Next was looking to back that win up but labored to finish in a distant third.

That was his first run of the season and there will be hopes that his performance in the Isaac Murphy would have blown away the cobwebs. He should arrive at this contest far fitter and ready to give his running.

Finishing fifth in the Isaac Murphy was Calibrate. Having had a productive 2023 which has yielded two wins including a shock win in the 2023 Temperance Hill Stakes, there were high hopes that he would run a big race in the Isaac Murphy. However the race wouldn’t pan out as his connections would have hoped and he would go onto finish well down the field.

Lone Rock will head to Belmont Park hoping to run much better than when last seen in the Isaac Murphy. A multiple stakes and graded winner, Lone Rock finished last in the Isaac Murphy and is another who looks like they have plenty to find if they are to finish the race on top.

One horse who didn’t compete in the Isaac Murphy but looks to have a strong chance here is the Todd Pletcher trained Bright Future. A winner of two of his four career starts, he looks to have a progressive profile and will be having his very first run in graded company. Whilst he looks to have some class to prove he shouldn’t be discounted and looks to be a contender here.

Brooklyn Stakes Odds & Betting Prediction

With so many horses renewing old rivalries, this year’s Brooklyn Stakes could go many ways. The smart money looks to be between either Warrant or Red Run as both finished some way clear of the rest of the field in the Isaac Murphy Overnight Stakes. Red Run could consider himself unlucky not to have won that race and could well come out on top here.
