Pilgrim Stakes Odds & Betting Predictions

Nine highly progressive two-year-old colts will head down to post for this year’s Pilgrim Stakes. With plenty on the line, the winner of this race will receive an entry into the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

Only two horses in the field have previous graded experience, with Spirit Prince and Get Spooled locking horns once again following their third and fourth place finish in the 2023 With Anticipation Stakes.

Pilgrim Stakes

Grade 2, one mile and a sixteenth, turf, open to two-year-old horses. Total prize pool: $200,000 – winner will receive an entry into the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf

Nine talented colts will try to put themselves into the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf picture with a strong performance in the Pilgrim Stakes.

In what is a wide-open contest, several horses look set to start the race with a real chance.

Only two in the field have previous graded experience, with Spirit Prince finishing once place ahead of Get Spooled in the 2023 With Anticipation Stakes.

Of the two, it’s Get Spooled who has previous winning experience with Spirit Prince yet to get off the mark. Both are clearly highly regarded, and their connections will be hopeful of a bold showing.

Five of the nine horses in the field were last time out winners, with some shedding their Maiden tag in real style.

Whilst Topandhagen may not be as well bred as others in the field, his maiden was impressive as he sauntered to a comfortable win. He didn’t seem to lack for stamina and could be one to follow with real interest.

Any Todd Pletcher runner must be seriously respected, but it took Agate Road two attempts to get off the mark. Although he was able to break his Maiden, the nature of his win was slim, and his connections will be hoping for plenty more here.

Pletcher’s best chance may rest with Triple Espresso. Immaculately bred, he was pitched straight into Stakes company where he finished second in the 2023 Kitten’s Joy Stakes. With that run now behind him, his connections will hope he will be able to shed his Maiden at the second time of asking.

Tifareeh was in a class of his own as he romped to an easy success last time out. Looking like a horse capable of going places, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the mix as the race enters its closing stages.

Linda Rice has had a terrific season and will be hoping to add another Graded prize to her mantle. She saddles B D Saints who was finally able to get off the mark in the fourth start of his career. His win didn’t come in an overly competitive affair, and you feel he will need to improve again if he is to come out on top.

Fulmineo will have Flavien Prat on board as he bids to win his second race in succession. His Maiden victory was convincing, but more will be needed in this illustrious company.

2023 Pilgrim Stakes Odds & Betting Prediction

This year’s Pilgrim Stakes looks to be a fascinating contest. With so many in with a chance, most of the field could be worth a bet. Both Spirit Prince and Get Spooled must be respected, as do the chances of Triple Espresso. Although he may not be heavily fancied, Topandhagen could be worth a play at a price.
