The final day of this year’s Goodwood Festival is upon us and headlining the racing action on Saturday is the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes. A Group 2 contest, eight horses will be hoping to add their name to the prestigious list of previous winners.
Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes, Group 2, One mile and six furlongs, open to horses three and over. Total prize pool £300,000.
As one of the more valuable Group 2 races of the season, this is a race that is being targeted by several of the UK’s biggest trainers. Headlining the field is the William Haggas trained Sea La Rosa.
A four year old, Sea La Rosa is still relatively unexposed and has had just two runs so far this season, but has performed credibly on each occasion.
A winner of a Grade 3 and runner up last time out in the Grade 2 Lancashire Oaks, he rightly tops the betting and will be tough to beat.
Chasing Sea La Rosa in the betting is the Aidan O’Brien fillie Emily Dickinson. With just six starts under her belt she is another that firmly sits in the unexposed camp. After trying several different distances it looks like 1 mile 6 is her preferred trip and she should be a force here. She also takes a step back in class following her fourth place finish in the Irish Oaks. A return to these calmer waters should produce a positive showing.
The top two are clear in the betting with there being quite a drop until we find Yesyes.
Undoubtedly the question mark of the race, this is Yesyes’s first run of the season and there is every suspicion that he might head into the race needing the run. Ralph Beckett’s charge signed off last season by running in Group one races and has the class to compete in this field. With fitness to prove he is a slightly risky proposition.
The only horse to enter this year’s Lillie Langtry fresh off the back of a win is Glenartney. An admirably consistent Listed performer this will be the highest profile race that he has ever raced in.
His previous efforts in Group company have been disappointing and a career best is needed here if he is to play a part in proceedings.
The value play of the race could be the Hughie Morrison trained Urban Artist. Now a seven year old, he’s a horse that is clearly exposed but his form around Goodwood makes for interesting reading. He has had two runs at the track and has recorded a second place finish and a victory and clearly thrives around the Sussex course.
With more on his plate here, a win looks unlikely but with his good form at the track, he could be a real contender at a big price.

Lillie Langtry Stakes Betting Prediction
Sea La Rosa deserves to start this race as a favourite but we will side with Emily Dickinson. As the only fillie in the race she will be carrying less weight then her rivals and is closely matched on form with Sea La Rosa. Ryan Moore has had one of his most productive seasons of his career and we think he will steer Emily Dickinson to her first ever Graded victory here.
