Five horses headed down to post for the Soaring Softly Stakes 2023, with Chad Brown and Christophe Clement saddling over half of the Belmont Park field.
With both Clement and Brown having a great chance of winning this race for a second time, it was Clement who would end up on top with Queen Picasso winning the second successive race of her career and first at a Graded level.

Grade 3, seven furlongs, turf, open to fillies aged three. Total prize pool: $175,000

In a wide open contest all five horses in this year’s renewal of the Soaring Softly Stakes looked to be in with a real chance of success.
However as the race would develop it would turn into a match with both Queen Picasso and American Apple battling it out for supremacy.

In what was an even break, the two horses jumped out in front and would never be pegged back.
American Apple who was looking to win the second Grade 3 race of her career, was the one happy to dictate the fractions with Queen Picasso tucked in just behind.
The order of the race would remain unchanged until both runners rounded the home turn and hit the final furlong.
With American Apple still holding a slim lead, it was Queen Picasso who was travelling much the best. Drawing alongside her rival, she was moving at a completely different level and quickly powered clear.
With daylight between them, there was nothing to stop Queen Picasso from completing the victory and registering her first graded success.
American Apple finished in second, with the race favorite Lady Beth finishing up in third.
