Mighty Heart to Beat March to the Arch in the Dominion Day Stakes

The current Canadian Horse of the Year is set to make an appearance at the Dominion Day Stakes and will likely go off as one of the favorites. Mighty Heart is currently priced at 5/2 and the 4-year-old colt looks good after its win in the Blame Stakes last time out.

The Jose Carroll trained horse will have his sights set on the $150,000 purse, but there is some fierce competition in the Dominion Day field. The G3 Woodbine race includes the experienced March to the Arch, a 6-year-old looking for his 8^th win in a career that has spanned 25 races and close to $850,000 in prize money.

March to the Arch will be backed quite heavily, but he hasn’t raced since the Breeders’ Cup Mile back in November 2020, where he finished a disappointing 13^th. Prior to that, he clocked a 2^nd and a 1^st at Woodbine, but those wins came nearly 9 months ago now, and that’s a very long time in the sport of horse racing.

Skywire and Belichick will threaten the lead, as well, but this race should go to either Mighty Heart or March to the Arch and we think the former might just edge it.

Big Prediction for the Iowa Oaks

The Iowa Oaks is a stakes race for three-year-old fillies and offers a purse of $225,000. There are some very talented horses in the field and it’s a hard one to call, but that only makes things more interesting!

Army Wife is one of the most in-form horses in the race and offers good value at 5/2. She has run three times in 2021 and has 2 wins and a third on her record. Pauline’s Pearl may nudge ahead in the betting stakes and is currently listed at the 2/1 favorite, but we quite like The Grass is Blue.

Trained by William I. Mott, The Grass is Blue hasn’t won since the beginning of the year, but she’s shown a lot of promise in her last few races and at 5/1, there is a lot of value here.

Windmill, Oliviaofthedesert, and Sister Annie could also threaten the leaders. It’s truly an open race and picking a winner is far from easy.

Last Judgment Looks Strong for the Cornhusker Handicap

The G3 Cornhusker is open to all horses aged three and over. There is $300,000 in the purse and some great horses in the field.

Knicks Go will start the race as the short-priced favorite, offering just 1/1, and with Joel Rosario on board, the 5-year-old should prove hard to beat. However, our money is going on Last Judgment, ridden by the excellent Jose Ortiz.

Currently priced at 4/1, the Florida horse offers much more value and has the skills to pull off an upset. The 5-year-old has secured 3 wins and 1 second-place in 2021, with nearly $500,000 in career earnings. He won big in the Pimlico Special Match Series last time out and will be gunning for his 9^th career win.

The short-priced Modernist is another one to watch and while Tenfold seems to be drifting in the market and has had a poor 2021, it’s a vastly experienced horse and shouldn’t be written off.
