Zuma Beach Stakes & Surfer Girl Stakes Odds

Two exciting races exclusively for two year olds take center stage at Santa Anita this Sunday, with the renewals of the Surfer Girl and Zuma Beach Stakes.

Breeders Cup Odds

This year’s Surfer Girl looks incredibly competitive with a whole range of horses in with a shout of victory. The slim favorite looks to be the Peter Eurton trained Flattery who will be aiming to keep her unbeaten record intact after winning the first two races of her career.

In the Zuma Beach most of the betting focus will be on Endlessly. He will be looking for his third successive victory after a decisive victory last time out in the 2023 Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes and could be tough to stop.

Surfer Girl Stakes

Grade 3, 1 mile, turf, open to two year old fillies. Total prize pool: $200,000

This year’s Surfer Girl Stakes looks an incredibly competitive affair with several horses looking to land the biggest race of the career.

Three horses renew rivalries from the 2023 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf – Flattery, Loterie and Angiolleta. The three filled out the first three places, with Flattery ending the race on top.

Heading into this race, connections of Flattery will be bullish about her repeating the feat. A winner of the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf by two lengths, both Loterie and Angiolleta will need to run big races to reverse that form.

With those three horses expected to be near the top of the betting, there are still others who will be hoping to muscle in on the action.

Dreamfyre holds arguably the best form of any horse in the lineup. Like Flattery she has won her first two races which includes a victory last time out in the 2023 Sorrento Stakes. That was a Grade 3 contest, so she has already proven her class. Expect another big run here.

Another horse set to feature near the top of the betting is Soho. Unlike others, she has just had the one run which came in a Del Mar Maiden.

Although that form isn’t the strongest, she came from well off the pace to win in decisive fashion. She makes the step up from five furlongs to a mile and that should unlock more potential.

The most highly tried horse in the lineup is Crown Imperial. Like most she has had two starts but her last race came in the 2023 Untapable Stakes – a prize worth $500,000.

Despite running a big race she could only finish in third. However, that run shouldn’t be discounted and she could be a huge player at a big price.

Completing the lineup are Putt for Dough, Where’s My Ring, Zona Verde and Sushi Sticks. All are likely to start at big prices.

2023 Surfer Girl Odds and Prediction

When it comes to trying to find a winner in this year’s Surfer Girl Stakes you are spoilt for choice. Flattery looks to have a major chance based on her recent performances, but Dreamfyre has already scooped a Grade 3 and looks capable of winning at this level once again.

Zuma Beach Stakes

Grade 3, 1 mile, turf, open to two year old horses. Total prize pool: $200,000

Another hugely competitive affair awaits in this year’s renewal of the Zuma Beach Stakes.

Mike McCarthy heads into the race strong handed and saddles three in the contest – Endlessly, Formidable Man and Ngannou

Set to start as the favorite is Endlessly. He boasts a perfect 100% record and is looking to complete a hat-trick of victories.

His victory last time out in the 2023 Del Mar Juvenile Turf was incredibly impressive. Traveling through the race as the best horse, he stretched his legs in the final furlong to win by four lengths. Anything close to a repeat of that performance will make him tough to beat.

Of the McCarthy runners his next best chance looks to be with Formidable Man. He beat his stablemate Ngannou in a Del Mar Maiden on his debut and the nature of his win can’t be overlooked. Seeming to get the hang of things late, he stayed on well inside the final furlong to narrowly prevail.

Boltage was last seen finishing as a runner up to Endlessly in Del Mar Juvenile Turf. Although he was well beaten that day, that last run could be discarded.

A poor start left him with plenty to do, and although he finished like a train, he simply had too much to find with Endlessly. If he can start better, he could well overturn that form.

When it comes to the two year old division there are few better trainers than Phil D’Amato. He looks to hold a strong chance with Pour Dompter

This will be his first run for D’Amato but he arrives having done plenty of racing in his native France. Placed at Listed level, he could have the class to make a real splash on his American debut.

Grand Mo the First is another potential player. He has won both of his starts, and although that form can be poked at he clearly arrives in good form.

Rounding out this year’s field are Mici’s Express and Ace of Clubs.

Of the two it could be worth taking a look at Mici’s Express. This will be his eighth career  start, and although he has just the one win, he has run in some competitive contests. He finished second in the 2023 I’m Smokin Stakes and that form gives him an outside chance for victory.

2023 Zuma Beach Stakes Odds and Prediction

Although the connections of Boltage will be hoping he can overturn recent form, it’s impossible to look beyond the chances of Endlessly. His display last time out in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf was dominant and he looks to have a real chance of repeating that success here.
