2023 Fourstardave Handicap Highlights

In this episode, we look at the winners from last weekend starting with with Inspiral’s win in the Prix Jacques Le Marois and the 2023 Fourstardave Handicap Highlights. We also bring you the latest horse racing news, and more in this HRT Highlights #71!

Inspiral takes the Jaques Le Marois at Deauville

When last seen Inspiral proved no match for Paddington in the Sussex, but back at Deauville for the G1 Jaques Le Marois the defending champion raced clear to win by one and a quarter length.  The victory gave the combination of John Gosden and Frankie Dettori four consecutive wins in the race and earned the filly a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

2023 Fourstardave Handicap Highlights

Also getting back-to-back wins was Casa Creed. The 7-year-old was making his fourth start in the Fourstar-dave and picked up his second victory to go with two thirds.  The Bill Mott trainee got first run on favorite Annapolis and finished three quarters of a length in front under Luis Saez.  The Fourstardave honored the memory of a horse who had 100 starts and won a race in 8 consecutive years at Saratoga.  Casa Creed earned a bid in the BC Mile and if he makes the starting gate it will be the 4th straight year.

Set Piece claims first success at the top level in the G1 Arlington Million

A big day at Colonial Downs was highlighted by the Arlington Million, where Set Piece came running from last to win the G1 event in track record time.  Last year’s winner, Santin, was second and Adamo finished third.  Brad Cox was the winning trainer and Florent Geroux rode the 7-year-old gelding who is looking toward the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Fev Rover wins the Beverly D. Stakes

Also on the card at Colonial Downs was the G1 Beverly D., where Fev Rover took the lead early and held off Gina Romantica for the victory under Javier Castellano. Mark Casse trains the winner, who also earned a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Rhyme Schemes destroyed the field in the G2 Saratoga Special

The two-year-old picture is begging to take shape when Rhyme Schemes destroyed the field in the G2 Saratoga Special to win by 9 lengths under Ricardo Santana for trainer Norm Casse.

Prince of Monaco dominates in the G3 Best Pal

Meanwhile, 24 hours later at Del Mar two talented Bob Baffert trainees went head to head in the G3 Best Pal and Prince of Monaco beat his two million dollar stablemate by 4 lengths under Flavien Prat in stakes record time.
