HRT HIGHLIGHTS #17: Kentucky Derby News and Future Book

In HRT we bring the latest information about horse racing. Here is a video that summarizes the most important events that happened during the weekend. This HRT HIGHLIGHTS #17 is not about who earned a place in the Run for the Roses but rather a horse that was passing but is now back in the starting gate.

HRT HIGHLIGHTS #17

Two weeks ago trainer Brian Lynch announced that after a poor Florida Derby, Classic Causeway would skip the Kentucky Derby.

But on Monday the trainer decided that the Tampa Bay Derby winner would indeed be in the gate on May 7th. This pushed the Todd Pletcher trainee Pioneer of Medina to the 21st spot and will need a horse to drop if he is to make the field.

Meanwhile, Steve Asmussen announced that Gotham Stakes winner Morello has a foot issue and will be taking some time off to recover and prepare for a summer campaign. Morello was 15th on the Derby points scoreboard.

Kentucky Derby Future Book

In the Kentucky Derby Future book brought to you by JazzSports. Epicenter remains the favorite and is now 7/2. Zandon, Messier, and Tay-ba are 6/1, and Classic Causeway is 40/1. Pioneer of Medina is ranked twenty-first and is sitting at 125/1.

Looking at the Oaks field, this week was highlighted by the top contenders posting workouts. Kathleen O worked out at Keeneland and Candy Raid posted a workout at Turfway. Both fillies will ship to Churchill Downs this week.

Already at Churchill and on the track was Hidden Connection along with Nostalgic and Venti Valentine. Adare Manor and Bubble Rock will both skip the Oaks.
