El Camino Real Derby

Golden Gate Fields does not generate much attention but on Saturday night the first spot in any of the triple crown races was locked up when Chase the Chaos won the El Camino Real Derby to not only get Kentucky Derby qualification points but a guaranteed spot in the Preakness Stakes.  The colt started his career at Berry Park before being moved to the barn of Ed Mo-ger and shipped to Northern California.  In the El Camino, Chase the Chaos went three wide and won by two lengths. 

Sam F. Davis Stakes

Earlier in the day at Tampa Bay Downs in rainy conditions, Todd Pletcher won his 7th Sam Davis when Litigate under Luis Saez stalked the pace and finished in front at 5/2.  The next stop for the colt is likely the Tampa Bay Derby which Pletcher has won five times.

Withers Stakes

Hit Show may not have been on broadway but he was a huge success at Aqueduct where he went off at 6/5 and easily won the G3 Withers under Manny Franco for trainer Brad Cox.  His next start will likely be in the G2 Wood Memorial also at Aqueduct

Suncoast Stakes

Meanwhile, on the Road to the Oaks, Breeder Cup Champion Wonder Wheel took the track in the Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay.  Sent off at 1/2, the filly could not get past 38/1 shot Dreaming of Snow who went gate to wire under Samy Camacho.  Finishing third in the race was Julia Shining who is a full sister to two-time eclipse winner Malathaat.  Dreaming of Snow received 20 Oaks qualifying points with the win
