HRT Highlights #52 Fountain of Youth Stakes & More

In HRT we bring the latest information about horse racing. In this HRT Highlights #52, we will look at racing across the world starting with last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Champion, Forte.

HRT Highlights #52

2023 Fountain of Youth Stakes

Coming off a four-month layoff since last seen at Keeneland, Forte went off as the 1/2 favorite and took the lead turning for home and won by four and a half lengths under Irad Ortiz for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Rocket Can finished second and pacesetter Cyclone Mischief finished 3rd. This was the third straight G1 victory for Forte who will make his next start in the Florida Derby.

2023 San Felipe Stakes

In California, where much of the attention went to the Baffert horses that moved into trainer Tim Yaktten’s barn, many people forgot that the G2 Los Alamitos Futurity champion already was there.

Also coming to the race off a layoff, Practical Move went off at 4/1 and sat behind his rivals and then took the lead at the top of the stretch and won easily by two and a half lengths under Ramon Vasquez.

Yakteen also trains National Treasure who figured to be the favorite but suffered a bruise foot and was scratched.

2023 Gotham Stakes

Meanwhile, in New York, trainer Ben Colebrook saddled his 23/1 shot Raise Cain but was not really optimistic about his chances and left the track before the race to catch a plane to Kentucky.

Raise Cain on the other hand was all business and came from last to demolish the field by 7 lengths under Jose Lezcano over a muddy track.  Favored Eyeing Clover was 4th.

2023 Santa Ysabel Stakes

There were also four races for fillies looking for Kentucky Oaks qualifying points but the horse that stood out the most is not heading to Churchill Downs

Bob Baffert has kept Faiza in his barn which means she is not eligible to run in the Oaks but she looked the part of a champion as she mowed down the best of the west with a two-length victory in the Santa Ysabel for her 4th win in 4 starts.

In other Oaks qualifying races, Dorth Vader won the Davona Dale at Gulfstream Park by 4 lengths. Shidabhuti won the Busher by 2. and at Turfway Park, Botanical took the Cincinnati Trophy by six.
