2023 Preakness Stakes
The 148th running of the Preakness will be run Saturday, May 20th and the only horse that made the trip to Baltimore from the derby will be the Mage. Mage will face seven rivals with Brad Cox trainee First Mission the most prominent after his win in the Lexington. Bob Baffert will send out National Treasure looking for his 8th win in this race and his 17th Triple Crown victory.
Faiza headlines the G1 Black Eyed Susan
Faiza was not able to participate in the Kentucky Derby due to the Baffert suspension but the undefeated three-year-old filly is the stand-out favorite to take the G1 Black Eyed Susan on Friday. Merlazza is the second choice in the wagering from the Brad Cox barn and is making her first start in a graded race. Hoosier Philly who was once considered the top filly in the division is also looking to get her season on track with a win.
Forte disqualified from 2022 Hopeful Stakes
Champion two-year-old Forte was disqualified from his victory in the 2022 G1 Hopeful stakes. Trainer Todd Pletcher was also suspended for ten days and fined $1000 dollars.
Red Knight wins the G1 Man O’ War
Last week there were a number of great performances but top of the list was 9-year-old Red Knight taking the G1 Man O’ War with Soldier Rising winning a five-horse photo for second.
Songline earns her spot for the 2023 BC Filly and Mare Turf
In the first Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In event of the season, Songline got up in the final strides to beat the white mare Sodashi in the Victoria Mile at Tokyo Racecourse. The victory earned the filly a spot in the BC Filly and Mare Turf that will take place at Del Mar in November.
