2022 Give Thanks Stakes
Group 3, one mile and four furlongs, open to fillies and mares aged three and over. Total prize pool €65,000.
- Rumbles Of Thunder +400
- Cairde Go Deo +125
- Kiss You Later +1600
This year’s race was rocked by the withdrawal of four horses which left a small field. Although short on numbers, the race was still packed with quality with the G M Lyons-trained Cairde Go Deo starting the worthy favorite following her third in this season’s Irish Oaks.
With just five runners, the race had the potential to be muddling, but it was Cairde Go Deo who took up the initiative and would be the front runner throughout the majority of the race.
Expected to back up her Irish Oaks placed effort, the warning signs were there from a fair way out. Unable to pull away from the field, Cairde Go Deo was joined at the two-furlong marker by the Paddy Twomey-trained Rumbles Of Thunder.
Having never won at this grade before, Rumbles Of Thunder sidled up alongside the longtime leader and looked full of running.
Looking to land a career-best prize, Rumbles of Thunder drew clear of the rest of the field as she hit the furlong pole.
Clearly paddling, Cairde Go Deo couldn’t respond and let her rival run clear.
In the end, the manner of victory was decisive and suggested that Rumbles Of Thunder has a bright future ahead of her. For Cairde Go Deo it will be a case of back to the drawing board and it will be interesting to see where she ends up next.
Kisses For You would finish in a distant third.
