Churchill Downs Racetrack Odds & News
The history of horseracing in Kentucky is vast. The people there just feel in love with the feeling of the earth-shaking as a dozen thoroughbreds go full speed down the stretch like thunder. This is the experience that offers the Kentuckian Churchill Downs Racetrack.
This track, located on Central Avenue in south Louisville, Kentucky, was built in 1875 over the 80 acres of land that Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark leased to his uncles John and Henry Churchill. Since then, Churchill Downs became the home of the Kentucky Derby, which is celebrated on the first Saturday of each May. This iconic race, also known as the Run for the Roses, is the first jewel of the Triple Crown, and it currently holds the record for the longest-running, continuous sporting event in the United States.
On the day of the Derby, this racetrack receives an exceptionally high volume of visitors. A crowd bigger than 170.000 people gather to watch a 1¼ mile horse race, which is considered to be the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. The winner receives a blanket of roses and the opportunity to keep chasing the Triple Crown.
There is a long day party built around a race of two minutes, and that gives the state of Kentucky the chance to show its pride and costumes to the world. From the flourish hats, traditional clothes, wagers, and history, the Kentucky Derby is the most-watched horse race of the year in the United States.
