The star of the show at Del Mar on Saturday was the mighty sprinter The Chosen Vron, who signed for his first victory at G1 level – and his eighth straight – with a determined score in the 2023 Bing Crosby Stakes.

What a remarkable horse this is. The Chosen Vron ticked all sorts of boxes at Del Mar on Saturday, extending his winning streak to eight and making his G1 breakthrough with a final surge to pip Anarchist and Dr Schivel in the feature Bing Crosby.
The 9-2 third-choice had won seven straight in state-bred stakes and graduated to the big league with honors, jockey Hector Berrios keeping him away from a sizzling pace before finding clear water in the two-path on the home turn.

With a furlong to run it was a three-horse war between the favored Dr Schivel on the outside, Anarchist between horses, and The Chosen Vron nearest the fence, but The Chosen Vron would not be denied and reached out to score by a head, with the same margin separating the board horses.
This was a win-and-in contest for the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on November 4, but The Chosen Vron will first have to be made eligible at a cost of $100,000. As this success – his 13th from 17 starts – made the gelding a millionaire, it seems an easy decision for trainer and co-owner Eric Kruljac to make.
