Fev Rover led every step of the way in the 2023 Beverly D. Stakes to earn a paid berth into the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. Here is our full race recap.

The other G1 on the card was also won by a horse who had begun life in Britain, with Fev Rover strolling gate-to-wire to take the Beverly D. in fine style from Gina Romantica and Romagna Mia, making her breakthrough at the top level and earning a paid berth into the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf in the process.
The field was reduced to five with two late scratches, one of them being the strongly fancied Didia, and that left Fev Rover with a fairly straightforward task to justify odds of 3-5. Straightforward it certainly was, as Fev Rover broke on top under Javier Castellano and that was the ballgame.
She was allowed an easy lead before putting the pedal to the metal around the turn, and although second-choice Gina Romantica produced a tepid challenge at the top of the lane there was only going to be one winner. Fev Rover cleared away to win by three and a half lengths, with Gina Romantica two and a quarter lengths ahead of Romagna Mia in third.

“She is a really good horse who has grown up a lot in the last year,” said trainer Mark Casse. “She’s tough though – the hardest part today was getting her saddled.”
Fev Rover, who gets her name from her previous owner’s devotion to West Yorkshire rugby team Featherstone Rovers, ran third in the classic G1 1,000 Guineas in Britain in 2021 and had twice hit the show spot in G1s in North America. She may now head for the EP Taylor at Woodbine, in which she was third 12 months ago, before her date at the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita on November 4.
